| Japan Collection of Microorganisms (JCM)
was founded in 1980 at RIKEN (The
Institute of Physical and Chemical Research), a semi-governmental
research institute supported by the Science and Technology Agency
(now Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)
of Japan, as a culture collection of microorganisms. JCM is conducted
by the Microbe Division of RIKEN
BioResource Center and contributes to domestic, regional, and
global improvements of conservation of microbiological resources
in cooperation with other culture collections and institutions.
JCM supplies authentic microorganisms to researchers in the fields
of life sciences and biotechnology. JCM preserves about 19,400
strains as of January, 2010, and available microorganisms from
JCM are: about 7,100 strains of bacteria including actinomycetes,
about 300 strains of archaea and about 4,100 strains of fungi including
yeasts (limited to organisms classified in biosafety level 1 or 2). In the JCM
On-line Catalogue Database, searching for microorganisms with
key words is operative. Users can send queries with scientific
names or JCM accession numbers or other culture collection designations.
The following information is hyper-linked from the catalogue data:
strain data such as history and other culture collection designations;
taxonomic data; references; and cultivation conditions with medium
formulations. Above data items of the strains are also available
in the printed
catalogue (10th edition, 2007). JCM welcomes a deposit of microorganisms
appearing in scientific papers published or designed to be published.
Please contact us when you are interested in purchase
and deposit of microorganisms. |
